KATE Middleton is known as one of the most stylish members of the royal family – but it seems that she has taken inspiration from elsewhere.
The Duchess of Cambridge appears to have looked to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana when it comes to some of her style staples.
Just yesterday Kate was pictured wearing her signature new accessory, the velvet headband as she volunteered at the Baby Basics charity.
But it was the Princess of Wales who first introduced the look to the royal wardrobe back in 1986 – and that isn’t Kate’s only “borrowed” look.
Here we reveal all the times that Kate has copied her “style sister” Princess Diana…
TRUSTY VELVET HEADBAND
The royal mum-of-three has become heavily reliant when it comes to the chic hair accessory, opting to wear it in both formal and casual occasions.
But it was Diana who debuted the look back in 1986 when she arrived in Vancouver wearing the statement headpiece.
The hairband became a trusty accessory for Lady Di who carried the trend through to the 90s as she added a full fringe to her cropped blonde do.
With Diana making the accessory work for over a decade, we doubt that Kate will be casting it aside any time soon.
PRACTICAL PUMPS
Kate is rarely seen in flats when it comes to royal engagements, however, there are times in every royal’s life that call for a pump.
The Duchess proved this during her visit to Baby Basics in Norfolk where she was spotted wearing a pair of white Supergas to help volunteers.
She rarely strays away from the shoes when it comes to a hands on engagement, as did Diana.
She wore the very same Superga trainers as Kate but in navy blue while on a visit to Angola for a Red Cross mission in 1997.
THE POWER SUIT
Diana was famed for her statement suits, relying on shoulder pads and bold colours to make an entrance on many an engagement.
And her daughter-in-law has come to replicate the look herself having recently been photographed in a dusky pink two piece during a visit to the Ambulance service in March.
Kate has previously relied on Di’s preferred suit choice of a skirt-suit, wearing a purple two-piece by Oscar de la Renta during a visit to the Royal Opera House in 2019.
THE MATCHING CLUTCH
If there is one thing that Diana perfected when it comes to style it was her ability to coordinate.
The late royal was a stickler for matching accessories, and religiously matched her clutch to her outfit, something Kate is now wont to do.
The Duchess of Cambridge seems to be making a great effort to pair her handbags to her outfits.
Earlier this year, during her visit to Dublin, Kate meticulously sought out an emerald green clutch that would perfectly match her Alessandra Rich dress.
And later that month her cherry red bag was an identical shade to the dress coat she wore to the Commonwealth Day Service.
SPORTS CHIC
A known hockey fan, Kate always delights in a sporty engagement and makes sure that her wardrobe is ready for action.
And when it comes to her sporty side, who is better style inspiration than Princess Diana who was known for her off-duty, sports luxe look.
In one iconic snap Diana can be seen wearing a colour block combo of tangerine orange and black as she hits the slope in Austria in 1993.
Kate opted for the very same colour palette 27 years later as she took part in a football game in Dublin.
