Can you tell which face cost £224 and which was just £58?

LOOKS can be deceiving – so can you tell which of these faces of make-up costs almost four times more?

One face is made up with £224-worth of products from designer brand Nars, while for the other, £58.27-worth of high street dupes have been used.

Is face A made up using £224-worth of products?
Or was it face B that was dolled up using the designer brand?

Nars is a celebrity fave, with Meghan Markle and Kim Kardashian, both 39, loving the brand.

But is it worth splashing out when you can pick up a carbon copy at your nearest Superdrug or Wilko?

Here, Siobhan O’Connor compares each of the products used and gives her verdict.

Nars is popular among celebs – Meghan Markle is known to favour the brand

The Nars haul comes to a whopping £224
Meanwhile the high-street buys from shops like Superdrug and Aldi cost just £58.27

Foundation

Surprisingly the Nars foundation is a lot drier than the one from e.l.f

PACKAGING wise, they are almost mirror images.

I actually think the Nars foundation is a lot drier than the bargain by e.l.f.

Nars gives a heavier coverage, but for an everyday natural look, you can’t beat e.l.f’s flawless foundation – especially as it’s less than a quarter of the price at £7.50.

  • Flawless finish foundation, £7.50, from e.l.f Cosmetics
  • All-day luminous weightless foundation, £35, from Nars

Concealer

The Nars concealer works wonders, but Aldi’s option is a bargain

IF you are not aware of the label Lacura then you would never know it’s from Aldi – its design looks expensive and just like Nars.

It’s creamy too, whereas the Nars option feels less moisturising.

Nars did work wonders covering my spots. In terms of value though, you get two for the price of one at Aldi.

  • Lacura concealer, £7.98 for two, from Aldi
  • Radiant creamy concealer, £24, from Nars

Blush duo

We actually preferred the e.l.f blush duo – plus it’s larger

THESE look identical, the only difference is the Nars version is a lot smaller. Nars’ Orgasm blush is so popular that two sell every minute.

But surprisingly, I actually prefer the version from e.l.f.

The Nars bronzer is quite a muddy shade compared to e.l.f’s. And the e.l.f blusher is light and peachy, too.

But I do think the Nars palette applies a lot smoother, with less blending required.

  • Blush bronzer duo in Fiji, £5, from e.l.f Cosmetics
  • Blush bronzer duo, £16, from Nars

Setting powder

If you’re looking to eliminate oiliness opt for the Nars powder

SPOTTING a difference between these two is tough.

As the dusting powder is just to mattify your skin and make you look polished, you can definitely get away with using a cheaper alternative.

The Nars pot did completely eliminate all traces of oiliness though.

  • Setting powder, £6.99, from B at Superdrug
  • Reflecting setting powder, £30, from Nars

Eyeshadow

You get what you pay for when it comes to eyeshadow – the NYX version leaves pesky residue

PIGMENT is usually a clear giveaway as to whether the palette is expensive or not. This is why you get what you pay for with Nars.

The strong hues show up just like they do in the palette, without much excess wasted.

But the NYX version needs heavier applying and sprinkles residue all over your cheeks.

  • NYX warm neutrals palette, £16, from Boots
  • All-glow eyeshadow palette, £56, from Nars

Brow pencil

In the end the Morphe pencil came out on top as the Nars option smudged more easily

THEY both come with the pencil one end and a brow shaper on the other – the only difference is the bold brand name emblazoned across them.

Although the Morphe pencil took a little longer to apply, with more aggressive strokes needed, I actually prefer the end result as it blends in better with your brow.

The Nars one smudged more easily.

  • Brow pencil, £7, from Morphe
  • Brow perfector pencil, £21, from Nars

Mascara

Nars’ mascara offers quality, but the £2.30 Essence option will get you through Monday to Friday

GRANTED, these do not look the same but shoppers claim the wand is near-enough identical, with the £2.30 Essence option working just as well as the £22 Nars version.

While the bristles are similar, the Nars mascara really brushed out my lashes and lengthened them – a must-have for the weekend.

But the £2.30 option will definitely get you through Monday to Friday.

  • Essence Get Big Lashes mascara, £2.30, from Wilko
  • Climax mascara, £22, from Nars

Lip gloss

Both lip glosses fared well – the texture of both is creamy and applies easily

SAVVY shoppers claim this NYX gloss is a carbon copy of the popular Nars Orgasm one.

While the packaging might not be identical, the texture of both is creamy and applies easily.

They both lasted through endless cups of tea, too. But the Nars shade of pink is a lot more flattering and warm.

  • NYX lip gloss, £5.50, from Superdrug
  • Orgasm lip gloss, £20, from Nars
