PRINCE Charles could step in and pay £2million of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security costs after their California move, a source claims.

It comes after Donald Trump refused to cover the costs as the pair relocated to LA this month.

Prince Charles could be set to contribute £2m to the couples security cost while they are living in America

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have moved to California with their security bill to be privately funded

The Daily Mail reports a royal source said: “Charles has agreed to pay a ”private contribution” to the Sussexes.

“It will not be revealed how much and what that is used for, but it is believed to be around £2 million. It would not be a surprise if it went into meeting the bill for security.

“However, the Prince of Wales does not have an infinite amount of money. The total income from the Duchy of Cornwall is annually around £21million.”

HOAR Online has gone to Buckingham Palace for comment.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to California before the borders between Canada and the US were shut over coronavirus fears.

Questions over who would pay for their security had arisen after Harry and Meghan said they wanted to become “financially independent”.

And the couple last night confirmed privately-funded security arrangements had been made for their new life from the Megxit date of today.

They issued their last social media post as senior royals today, saying “thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world” and signed off as “Harry & Meghan”.

SUSSEXES OUT

Mr Trump yesterday waded in on the row and refused to foot the couple’s huge £20million security bill after they quit the royal family.

But the couple’s spokesperson responded to the comments last night, saying: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources.

“Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”

Scotland Yard and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had been providing round-the-clock security for the couple and baby Archie in their rented mansion in Vancouver.

But Canada previously confirmed it will stop providing protection for the Sussexes once they cease to be senior royals on March 31.

There was controversy and confusion over whether the British taxpayer would still be funding the pair’s security after they quit as senior royals.

The US President tweeted today: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom.

“It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada.

“Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

It was also revealed that Catherine St Laurent will start as Chief of Staff to the pair at the beginning of April.

A Sussex Royal spokesperson said: “As was agreed with The Royal Family, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer use the name Sussex Royal for their charitable organisation, Instagram or website.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend the next few months focusing on their family and continuing to do what they can, safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future non-profit organisation.

“Following today’s post, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer post on Instagram under the @sussexroyal handle and will also no longer update SussexRoyal.com website.

“Both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future, although they will be inactive.

“The Duke and Duchess have made private security arrangements.

“For their safety and that of those protecting them, no further comment or guidance will be provided.”
