The HBO animated series gave a satirical look into the life of Prince George, the future monarch, and featured versions of all the key members of the Royal Family.

Series creator Gary Janetti was the voice of Prince George, while Orlando Bloom voiced Prince Harry, Dan Stevens portrayed Prince Charles and Prince Philip and Sophie Turner voiced Princess Charlotte.

The Prince only aired in the US for one series and didn’t even make it across the shores to the UK, however, it still managed to spark an angry backlash on both sides of the Atlantic.

Now, HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys has confirmed the show will not return for a second series.

During an interview with Deadline, Casey said: “The Prince is not moving forward.”

Many had criticised for the way the Royals were portrayed, particularly young George, eight, who was cast as “entitled and conniving”.

After reading the news of the show’s axing, many took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One wrote: “Should have never been put in production in the first place.”

Another added: “How did it get greenlit in the first place?”

Meanwhile a third tweeted: “Great news, George is a darling boy and this show shouldn’t be aired at all.”

The Prince was one of four original animated series released on HBO Max, however only one – Close Enough – has been renewed for a second season.

The show faced huge backlash and many were glad to learn it won’t be returning for a second series
