Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie films with Netflix days after Meghan Markle & Prince Harry sign £112m deal

FINDING Freedom biographer Omid Scobie has revealed that he is filming with Netflix, just days after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s £112m deal with the platform was announced.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex unveiled their new mega-deal last week and said they aim to bring “hope and inspiration” through their media project.

Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie revealed on Instagram yesterday that he is filming with Netflix

Omid took to his Instagram page yesterday and revealed he too was “shooting a little something with Netflix” – although didn’t share any further details.

It is not known if his filming work is linked to Meghan and Harry’s deal.

Omid, along with royal writer Carolyn Durand, was behind the controversial biography Finding Freedom, which was released this summer.

The royal experts claim to have spoken to the duke and duchess in the compiling of the book, but insisted the royals were not interviewed as part of the process.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have just signed a £112m deal with Netflix

A source told Fabulous that “Harry did not inform the Queen about the Netflix deal” and Her Majesty, 94, was told the news by her aides.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have never produced a TV show, will make documentaries, films, scripted and kids’ programmes in the new partnership.

The source added: “Her Majesty is all too aware of the pitfalls of when senior royals embark on lucrative projects – Prince Edwards’ production flop and some of the deals Sarah Ferguson has signed over the years to name a few.

“Her view is simple, the Royals are not for sale and danger surrounds high profile roles outside of the institution itself.

“But knowing her grandson Harry as she does, the Queen will know there would have been little chance of talking Harry and Meghan out of it.”

While the couple may have not informed the Queen about the deal, it has been reported that the Netflix deal will be “examined” by the Palace over its commercial links.

Just days after the deal was announced, the couple confirmed they had paid back the full £2.4million spent on refurbishing their home in the UK, Frogmore Cottage.

The couple are now based in the US – recently buying up a huge £8m Santa Barbara home to start their new life with son Archie.

The couple may appear on camera in documentaries, but former Suits star Meghan has no plans to return to acting, a representative told the New York Times.

Last year Meghan returned to showbusiness as a narrator of Disney Plus series Elephants, which came out in April.

During the Lion King premiere Harry pointed to his wife and told Disney boss Mr Iger: “You do know she does voiceovers?”

Looking surprised, Mr Iger replies “ah I did not know that”, before Harry continues “you seem surprised, she’s really interested”.

In January, it was reported Meghan signed a voiceover deal with Disney in return for a donation to a wildlife charity.

Meghan and Harry have launched their own production company but have not revealed the name yet

The couple said in a statement: “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shine a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”

Harry and Meghan’s production company has not yet been named.
