KATE Middleton gave a subtle nod to Australia as she paid tribute to the country’s frontline workers in a video message today.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge marked the country’s Inaugural Thank a First Responder Day – with Kate recycling a yellow dress from her 2014 visit to Sydney.

Kate Middleton wore a £900 bright yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress for her video chat with Australian frontline workers today

Kate, 38, was filmed in a £900 bright yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress, as she joined Prince William, 37, in thanking those working “tirelessly to risk their lives” during the coronavirus outbreak.

She added a touch of glitz with a pair of £165 gold leaf Catherine Zoraida earrings.

The couple spoke from their Norfolk retreat Anmer Hall, where they are isolating with Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two.

Kate’s bright dress also mirrored the gold of the Australian flag, and she has previously worn the colour blue numerous times in the past two months – a shade very much associated during the coronavirus pandemic with the heroic NHS.

In the video, Prince William praised frontline workers, saying: “Earlier this year, we witnessed thousands of firefighters, supported by the wider first responder community, as they worked tirelessly risking their own lives to protect Australia’s communities from the devastating wildfires.

“The world was watching your efforts and we were deeply moved by what we saw.”

Kate continued: “Sadly, you’re on the frontline of yet another emergency. The covid-19 outbreak has brought first responders across Australia together again.

“Day in, day out, paramedics, police, firefighters and support staff, work tirelessly to keep everybody safe, often risking not only their physical health but also their mental wellbeing.”

Will added: “We must mention Australia’s volunteer first responders, who choose to put their lives on hold to support communities at times of need.

“And we should not forget these incredible people are supported everyday by their family and friends.”

Kate then said: “Today, on Australia’s inaugural Thank a First Responder Day, you all deserve our huge thanks.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were set to travel to Australia to visit towns affected by the bushfires, it was revealed in February.

Had it gone ahead, it would have been their first visit together since 2014, and William’s fifth trip.

It is not known if the couple’s Australian visit will go ahead later this year.

The follows Kate, along with Camilla and Sophie Wessex, making phone calls to people who are elderly, self-isolating or vulnerable during the coronavirus pandemic.

They have also teamed their Royal Foundation with charities Mind, Samaritans, Shout and Hospice UK to create the ‘Our Frontline’ scheme.
