MEGHAN Markle and Kate Middleton have followed in Princess Dianas footsteps in channelling numerous green outfits on their royal tours.

And it turns out that it might have been a strategic choice as green is a powerfully symbolic colour according to the Islamic faith.

Green is believed to have been the favourite of Prophet Mohammed, who is said to have worn a turban and cloak in the colour.

And in the Koran, it is said that those in heaven wear green garments of fine silk.

All three women wore various shades of green when visiting religious sites to honour the faith, and covered their head out of respect.

Kate Middleton is currently on a five-day royal tour to Pakistan with Prince William, and stunned in a turquoise French chiffon shalwar kameez with gold embroidery for a visit to the 17th century Badshahi Mosque in Lahore.

Meghan also wore green when she met members of the Auwal Mosque in South Africa during her 10-day royal tour

The shalwar kameez is the national dress of Pakistan and is a traditional combination dress worn with trousers, and the modest outfit covered Kates bare arms and legs.

A shalwar kameez is often worn nowadays with a long scarf or shawl, called a dupatta, around the head or neck, and Kate opted to cover her head in the mosque as a sign of respect.

Diana had worn a similar outfit for her visit to the same mosque in 1991, but raised eyebrows when some deemed it to be too short as it exposed her lower legs.

Green is also a poignant choice for the royals to wear in Pakistan, as it’s also their national colour.

Meanwhile, on Meghan Markle and Prince Harrys 10-day tour of southern Africa last month, the duchess wore a similar green outfit when she visited the Auwal Mosque.

The 38-year-old mother wore a 260 Staud dress and light headscarf and held hands with her 35-year-old husband as they arrived for the visit on day two of their Africa tour.

Prince Harry also appeared respectful, taking his shoes off before heading inside.
