MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry helped former gang members to make food for vulnerable communities in Los Angeles this week.
On Tuesday, the Duchess, 38, and Duke of Sussex , 35 – who are living in Tyler Perry’s $18 million LA mansion – volunteered at the Homeboy Industries Café and Bakery.
Photos were shared of the couple’s visit to the California establishment, which saw them prepare food and learn about the organization behind it.
Homeboy Industries shared images of Meghan and Harry’s visit on social media.
“Thank you to Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, for visiting and standing in kinship with our Café and Bakery teams yesterday!” their Instagram caption read.
“Our staff were thrilled to work alongside them as they helped prepare food and learned more about our newly launched #FeedHOPE program.
“[It] employs our program participants to provide meals to food-insecure seniors and youth across Los Angeles in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Megan and Harry kept things casual, donning crisp white shirts for the occasion and rolled up their sleeves.
During the baking extravaganza, they made bread, folded dough, and sorted food boxes for the needy.
Harper Bazaar’s royal editor Omid Scobie revealed that Homeboy Industries is run by Father Gregory Boyle.
Former actress Meghan and her royal husband have reportedly been speaking to Boyle about the issue of racial injustice amid widespread Black Lives Matter protests.
Meghan and Boyle met 20 years ago at a Homeboy Industry cooking workshop, where she made tamales with her mom, Doria.
Boyle has worked with Meghan’s alma mater, Immaculate Heart High School in LA.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were just ‘Harry and Meghan’ to the homies,” he said. “They rolled up their sleeves and deeply engaged with our workers in the bakery and cafe. It was immediate kinship and heartening in its mutuality.”
Homegirl Cafe manager Mariana Enriquez, manager said it was “remarkable” to have Harry and his wife participate in the Feed Hope program.
“They are both down to earth and kind,” Enriquez said. |The staff was honored they took the time to see us, hear us and walk on our journey today. We will never forget it.’
The organization focusses on counseling, education, legal assistance, addiction recovery and employment opportunities “as a perfect example of how empathy, kindness, and compassion can change the world.”
“It’s beacon of hope in Los Angeles to brave men and women seeking to transform their lives after gang-involvement and incarceration,”
Its 9,000 members are helped via job training, mental health services, GED classes, and legal services.
While Meghan and Harry successfully gave back to vulnerable people, they could make millions for giving speeches after reportedly signing with an elite agency that represents the Obamas and the Clintons.
According to reports, the couple have joined the Harry Walker Agency, which also boasts big names like Serena Williams and Oprah Winfrey as clients.
HOAR contacted the Harry Walker Agency for comment.
