MEGHAN Markle has vowed that her “political activism won’t end after the US election”, after being criticised for breaking royal protocol, according to an insider.

Both the Duchess and the Duke of Sussex have faced backlash for their involvement in the US election in previous months, with the royal family typically remaining impartial in political matters.

Meghan Markle’s political activism won’t end after the US election according to her spokesperson

However, Meghan’s spokesperson has confirmed that Meghan’s involvement with politics is not specific to the US election.

Speaking to Insider, they said: “Part of being an active member of society is to take part in the democratic process.

“So encouraging people to get involved in politics is something that is important.”

It comes as Meghan made history by becoming the first modern royal to vote in a US presidential election after casting an early mail ballot, a source has claimed.

Both Prince Harry and Meghan have faced criticism for their involvement with US politics

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly “couldn’t wait” to cast her vote via a mail-in ballot.

Centuries-old tradition dictates that members of the British monarchy remain politically neutral, and so voluntarily refrain from casting votes.

American divorcee Wallis Simpson’s relationship with King Edward VIII led to him abdicating the throne in 1936 but it isn’t known if Simpson voted in a US election.

Sources claim that Meghan wouldn’t have missed voting in the election no matter where she was living

“Meghan was an American long before she was a royal,” the insider told Page Six on Tuesday. “She wouldn’t miss voting in this election no matter where she was living.”

Meghan and Prince Harry, 36, received some pushback when they weighed in on the US election recently.

Prince Harry isn’t a US citizen and so can’t vote. It is unknown who Meghan voted for, but she has hinted in the past that she is not a fan of Donald Trump.

Page Six’s source added that Meghan wasn’t going to let anything stand in her way of voting – even if she and Harry were still living in the UK.

In other royal news, these are all the times that Meghan has broken royal protocol as she becomes the first royal voter.
