THOSE who suffer from an allergic condition such as hay fever have a lower risk of being infected with Covid-19 a new study has found.

Research from the Queen Mary University of London analysed data from more than 16,000 adults in the UK.

The tests took place between May 2020 and February 2021 found that hay fever and eczema sufferers are nearly 25 percent less likely to contract the virus.

Published on Thursday in the journal Thorax, the study asked adults to provide information on their ages, heights, weights, diets lifestyles and whether or not they were taking any medications or had been vaccinated against Covid.

In total 466 participants tested positive for the virus during the study.

Researchers found that among those with atopic diseases, such as eczema and dermatitis as well as those with hay fever or rhinitis had a 23% lower risk of Covid.

Asthma sufferers, had a 38 percent lower risk of infection, even when using steroid inhalers.
