PIERS Morgan didn’t hold back as he angrily reacted to the launch of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new foundation amid the coronavirus crisis.

The Good Morning Britain star, 55, retweeted a Sky News report about the couple’s Archewell foundation and hit out at the timing.

Piers Morgan didn’t hold back as he angrily reacted to the launch of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new foundation

He wrote: “Total number of f***s the British public give about these two announcing their ‘plans’ from Hollywood right now: 0.”

The majority of his followers agreed, with one commenting: “There’s a time and a place to make announcements and now really isn’t the time, what would of been nice is a message of support to a country they say to love and best wishes to our PM.”

Another posted: “Poor taste and bad timing. They obviously think they are more important than they are.”

However, the former royals did have their supporters, with one writing: “So let me get this right- they’re famous & wealthy and are willing to donate their time and probably finances to help others and raise the profile of this yet you think now is the best time to tweet for likes by condemning them.”

Harry and Meghan’s new foundation is called Archewell

Harry and Meghan told the Daily Telegraph in an article that went live last night that they were “looking forward” to getting started on their not-for-profit enterprise, which they confirmed is called Archewell.

However, the decision to release their statement – which Meghan, 38, and Harry, 35, claimed was already delayed due to the pandemic – has been called out by experts.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, royal biographer Phil Dampier criticised the couple for not holding off until after coronavirus lockdowns have eased.

The author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in Their Own Words, said: “It’s appalling timing, I would say. It was the worst possible timing.

“If I were Harry and Meghan I would have laid low until this situation (coronavirus) was over.”

Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator, added that the move had “little current relevance” in the present climate.

Posting on Twitter, Kathie Gyngell, the editor of The Conservative Woman, wrote: “Couldn’t they have waited? Deeply inappropriate time.”

The couple named their new organisation after their son

David Haigh, human rights lawyer and former managing director of Leeds United Football Club, agreed: “Bad timing. The world is too busy for their vanity project… didn’t they get the memo?”

Archewell is named after their eleven-month-old son Archie and means ‘source of action’ in Greek.

According to paperwork filed in the US last month, the couple were looking into creating a non-profit organisation which offers emotional support groups, a multi-media educational empire, and a well-being website.

The couple told the Telegraph they wanted the organisation “to do something of meaning, to do something that matters”.

However, further details have reportedly been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the couple have said an announcement will be made “when the time is right”.

Meghan and Harry said: “Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global Covid-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be.”

“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of Arche – the Greek word meaning source of action.

“We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters.

“Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.

“We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”

The Telegraph reported that one section of the document that they retrieved detailed the possibility of a website “in the field of nutrition, general health and mental health” – much like Meghan’s now-defunct The Tig website.
