PRINCE Andrew’s sensational claim that he “can’t sweat” has today been slammed by experts.

The Duke of York used the defence in his “car crash” BBC interview to deny allegations by Virginia Roberts that he was “profusely sweating” while dancing with her at Tramp nightclub in 2001.

Prince Andrew claimed that he “can’t sweat” in his catastrophic Newsnight interview

Ms Roberts has claimed she met Andrew at the nightclub before the Prince’s friend Jeffrey Epstein made her sleep with him.

Denying the allegations, he told Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis that he had taken Princess Beatrice to Pizza Express in Woking on the day in question, and had been at home with his daughters while ex-wife Sarah was away.

The Prince then claimed he could not have “sweated profusely” as Ms Roberts had said.

In the interview shown on BBC2, he said that being “shot at” during his time serving as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands War caused him to develop a medical condition, anhidrosis.

Dr Hilary Jones said he was “sceptical” about Prince Andrew’s claims he has anhidrosis

Prince Andrew said: “I didn’t sweat at the time because I had suffered what I would describe as an overdose of adrenaline in the Falklands War, when I was shot at… it was almost impossible for me to sweat.”

But, medical experts have thrown the Duke’s claims into doubt.

Dr Hilary Jones told GMB’s Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid he is “sceptical” of Prince Andrew’s defence that he cannot sweat.

“It’s an extraordinary claim,” he said.

“There’s only three things that can cause this condition called anhidrosis or hyperhidrosis.

“Firstly it can be congenital, which is clearly isnt in this case.

“Secondly it can be a prelude to something like heatstroke, where youre so empty of bodily fluids you cant sweat. Clearly it isnt the case here.

“Theres a third explanation, which is that simply he had an injury or some kind of serious condition which would effect his whole body which, again, clearly isnt the case.”

The medical expert then added: “As for the adrenaline thing in the Falklands, it doesnt make sense, because sweating isnt mediated by adrenaline, its mediated by acetylcholine.”

When pressed by Piers Morgan about whether Prince Andrew had the condition, Dr Jones said he was “absolutely sceptical”.

Similarly, Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical director of patient.info, told HOAR Online that there is “no evidence” that trauma leads to anhidrosis.

She said: “Some people are born with a congenital condition that stops their sweat glands from developing.

“Other people develop anhidrosis later in life.

The Duke of York spoke for the first time about his links to Jeffrey Epstein in the BBC interview

“This can be due to skin damage (burns, radiotherapy); conditions that affect your skin (such as psoriasis); nerve damage (such as in diabetes, vitamin deficiency and alcohol problems); or some medications, including strong painkillers like morphine.

“Prince Andrew referred to an overdose of adrenaline preventing him from sweating.

“In fact, high levels of adrenaline can lead to increased sweating, not less.

“There is no evidence that trauma leads to anhidrosis.”

Prince Andrew’s interview came after he has faced continued scrutiny over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Epstein was found hanged in his prison cell in August while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.

Andrew was infamously photographed with his arm around Ms Roberts at Ghislaine Maxwell’s home in London in 2001.

The Duke repeatedly said during his BBC interview that he had “no recollection” of the photo being taken – and appeared to suggest it could have been faked.

Asked about claims he had sex with Ms Roberts, he told Maitlis: “I can absolutely categorically tell you it never happened.”

Ms Roberts has claimed she was forced to have sex with Andrew three times between 1999 and 2002 – in London, New York and on Epstein’s private Caribbean island.

The Duke said he was on a trip to Boston when Ms Roberts said she was “trafficked” to him in New York.

The interview was conducted in Buckingham Palace’s south drawing room on Thursday, and aired on BBC2 on Saturday night.

Andrew has faced backlash about his claims he “can’t sweat” with Ant and Dec mocking him during the opener of last night’s I’m A Celebrity.

As the pair introduced the latest batch of celebrities, which includes Caitlyn Jenner and Ian Wright, Ant, 43, said: “Ten celebrities, all very nervous, all of them sweating…”

But Dec, 43, cheekily interjected: “Presuming they can sweat. Not everybody can, apparently.”

In a later link they made another joke at the Prince’s expense, with Dec saying: “But will those five celebrities be a) confident b) excited or c) absolutely sweating.”

Ant added: “Presuming they can sweat” and Dec quipped again: “Not everybody can, not everybody can.”
