PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle have agreed they will pay for some of their own security if they are commercially successful, reports say.

Questions have swirled about who would cover the bill since the couple announced their decision to step down as senior royals earlier this month.

The pair, whose combined wealth is currently an estimated 34 million, have said they intend to become financially independent and to split their time between the UK and North America.

Reports by the Telegraph have now suggested they want to pay some of their security bill, currently covered by the state.

A “well-placed source” has reportedly said they will reimburse the cost of security for private business engagements not connected with their position as royals.

The arrangement is reportedly similar to struck by former prime minister Tony Blair, who has covered much of his own security costs since leaving office in 2007.

Tony Blair reimburses at least part of his security costs on commercial trips, the source said.

There is an arrangement for that in place.

“Harry and Meghan intend to do the same for private trips.”

‘WANT TO MAKE DOCUMENTARIES’

The Telegraph reports that the ability of the royal couple to fulfil the agreement will depend on their commercial success.

They earlier agreed to repay 2.4 million of public funds that had been used to renovate their Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor.

They reportedly intend to support themselves making documentaries focusing on their interests, which include wildlife conservation and the environment.

Global streaming service Netflix is said to be interested in striking a deal with the couple.

Harry arrived on Vancouver Island in Canada, where the couple will now intend to spend some of their time living, on Tuesday.

Pictures earlier showed Meghan, who arrived on the island earlier, walking her two dogs with eight-month-old son Archie strapped to her front in a carrier.

Two royal protection officers could also be seen following behind.

Kensington Palace has been approached for comment.
