PRINCE Harry will take part in Prince Philip’s 100th birthday celebration this summer as he reaches out to the royal family after Megxit, it’s reported.
The royal – who has spent the pandemic in his LA mansion with wife Meghan Markle and the couple’s son Archie – is understood to be hoping to see his family on a number of occasions this year.
One of the events will be his grandfather’s birthday on June 10 this year.
The Duke of Sussex hopes to return to the UK for the celebrations, it’s reported in US magazine People.
But there are concerns Meghan and Harry’s return could be an awkward one as it’s alleged the couple are still barely speaking to Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The Royal Family has a packed diary of big events in the coming year that the Sussexes would look rude to miss.
The programme includes the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana that Wills and Harry commissioned together.
The ‘Fab Four’ seemed frosty when they were last seen together publicly at the Queen’s Commonwealth Day Service in March, shortly after Megxit was confirmed.
Meghan gave Kate an awkward wave and the group barely spoke – with reports William was distraught by Harry’s decision to set up a new life America.
Royal sources suggest the two couples are still barely talking – and have grown further apart.
William and Kate have continued their royal duties through the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan pursued a mega-bucks TV deal with Netflix and championed causes close to their hearts, such as the Black Lives Matter movement.
Despite the rift, it’s claimed that Meghan and Harry don’t regret stepping down as senior royals.
A source told People the couple “love” their newfound freedom to work on special projects and life away from the “firm”.
The leak, who is close to the couple, told the magazine: “Meghan and Harry took a huge leap of faith to embark on their new life.
“Despite everything that has been going on this year, they don’t regret their move to the US.
“They love that they are able to focus on projects and causes that are important to them.
“It was always their dream to be financially independent and pay their own way.
“Harry was finally doing what he’d wanted to do for years, and to have Meghan and Archie with him was all he could have asked for.”
And it’s reported that, whatever happens with his grandsons, Prince Philip doesn’t want a fuss on his birthday.
The Duke of Edinburgh, who retired from royal duty in 2017 after almost seven decades of service, is a “reluctant celebrant”, it’s said.
Insiders say they’re expecting “short shrift” as they prepare to mark the occasion.
Sources told The Telegraph Prince Philip wants “nothing to do with it”, explaining: ‘Let’s just say we have a rather reluctant celebrant.
“You can’t do something if someone doesn’t want something doing.”
Insiders added that, depending on the coronavirus restrictions, the Royal Family might choose to celebrate privately.
