SIR Rod Stewart has revealed his brother Don died this week – two days before the death of the Queen.

The singer, 77, said it was “a devastating 48 hours” following the family tragedy on Tuesday.

Sir Rod Stewart, here performing at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert, said the last 48 hours have been ‘devastating’

Sir Rod posted on Instagram and Twitter: “It has been a devastating 48 hours.

“We lost my brother Don on Tuesday at 94 and today we have all lost Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 96.”

He went on to recall how the Queen, who passed away “peacefully” at Balmoral yesterday, had been “an unwavering presence” throughout his life and “a great unifier” – just like his older sibling.

Sir Rod, who performed at the Platinum Jubilee concert in June, added: “A shining star that will never fade in our hearts and souls.

“What a privilege it was to perform for her.

“My deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. God save the King.”

Fans rushed to send their condolences during the difficult time.

One said: “I’m so so sorry to hear about your brother. I can only imagine how heartbreaking that is.”

Another wrote: “The country now mourns alongside you.”

In a sombre statement on September 8, Buckingham Palace confirmed Her Majesty Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history, had died – making her son, Charles, King.

Later, as he led the nation in mourning, he said: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.”
