The council decorated my street for the Jubilee but we hate the colours – it’s sent the entire street into a frenzy

STREETS up and down the country are preparing to host street parties to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Many councils have attempted to decorate streets in the spirit of the festivities – but it seems some have done a better job than others.

Residents were furious the council had scrimped on bunting and used other colours not representing the Union Flag

One person has taken to Mumsnet to explain how the council’s decorations have caused an uproar on her street.

The council in question used an array of bunting, including the obvious colours red, white and blue – but they also added orange and green.

Apparently, the street has kicked up a fuss on Facebook over the colour choices.

They wrote: “The result is that people have complained about it on the local Facebook group for not being, I dunno, flag like enough I guess?”

BUNT OUT

Our Jubilee bunting was banned ‘amid fears it’s too HEAVY for lamposts’

HEIR THIS

My neighbour says I can’t join our Platinum Jubilee party as I didn’t chip in

But that’s not the only thing that has riled up the community.

Many have complained that there haven’t been enough events organised to celebrate the Queen‘s Platinum Jubilee.

They added: “Anyway, more people have piled on about the lack of events celebrating the event.

“There’s a picnic in the park organised and a band will be playing. It’s a town of around 8,000 people so I’m not sure what else is expected.”

Others in the group said they should ignore the Jubilee because of the cost of living crisis.

“So now it’s all kicked off and people are hurling insults at each other,” they added.

“All because of a bit of bunting.

“Anyone else’s group gone a bit mad?”

Many said they had experienced similar situations with their neighbours, one wrote: “Yes! Because our town council hasn’t put up any bunting! Much patriotic frothing.”

“Ours is kicking off about county council interference after they confiscated a jubilee scarecrow display,” added another.

A third commented: “Lots of people got upset that the council hadn’t put up flags. Then they put up flags (which they had clearly already bought and had ready to go, just not up yet) then some people complained about the cost”
