WHILE many people lose their appetite for sweet treats in older age, the Queens desire appears to have grown.

Staff members are said to have noticed that the usual selection of goodies served for the sovereign’s afternoon tea are disappearing from plates faster than usual.

The Queen is said to have more of a sweet tooth than ever in her older years

An insider at the palace said: And that’s not just because they’re being snaffled by the corgis, HM is getting through more nibbles these days.”

Chef Darren McGrady, who worked in the Buckingham Palace kitchens for 15 years, says the Queen, 93, has always had a sweet tooth.

The kitchen whizz said the monarch especially loved his three-layer Chocolate Perfection Pie.

He said of her afternoon tea preferences: “Even if she’s on her own, there would be ginger or chocolate cake or a honey and cream sponge and small cakes like chocolate clairs.

Darren said to Hello! that the Queen cant resist a chocolate treat.

He said: She is absolutely a chocoholic. Anything we put on the menu that had chocolate on, she would choose, especially chocolate perfection pie.

But, the Queen won’t entertain any old chocolate – in fact, it has to be dark.

“She likes chocolate, but only dark chocolate, the darker the better,” he added.

Shes not a big fan of milk or white chocolate.

While Prince Philip has a more adventurous palate, the Queen is said to stick to her usual favourites with food

And it’s not the only treat the monarch enjoys – in fact, according to one royal insider, the Queen is known to enjoy the occasional takeaway, too.

A source told Fabulous Digital: She very occasionally treats herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral.

A footman is dispatched to get it from the local town of Ballater.

Former chef to the Queen Darren McGrady used to create a personal menu for the Queen to choose from

However, it’s not all takeaways and chocolate, with Darren explaining to the Express that the Queen simply eats to live rather than living to eat.

Apparently, the Queen would often ask for grilled or poached fish accompanied by vegetables or salad.

“That’s it. That’s all she has,” he said.

She’s very disciplined like that. She could have anything she wanted, but it is that discipline that keeps her so well and so healthy.

We shared how Charles felt the Queen was a cold and distant mother but she didnt want to burden him with duties as a boy.

And the Queen once gave Prince William the most almighty b******ing after he chased Zara Phillips into a lamppost.
