THE Queen once told her dressmaker that she looked like a “pint of Guinness” after she dyed her hair a dodgy colour.

Angela Kelly, 52, has worked with the Queen since 2002, said Her Majesty, 93, was not impressed that she had dyed her blonde hair underneath.

The Queen once joked her dresser resembled a pint of Guinness after a dodgy hair dye job

Angela revealed the Queen’s comical comment in her tell-all book The Other Side of the Coin, the Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe.

When the monarch had seen her new hair colour, she said: “Have you seen a pint of Guinness?”

When Angela said she had, the Queen responded: “Hmmmm”.

The dressmaker said she swiftly booked an appointment at the hairdressers following the encounter.

Angela revealed insights into her work with the monarch in her tell-all book

Several anecdotes in Angela’s book show the Queen’s sense of humour, and Angela had no qualms with playing practical jokes on the monarch.

Once she even used an extravagant hairpiece to pretend she had dyed her hair purple during a state visit to Thailand, and also gave her a hat sporting dangling corks when they visited Australia.

Angela made a lasting impression on the monarch when they first met, by refusing to tell her a secret.

The pair first met in 1992, when Angela was working as a housekeeper for the British Ambassador to Germany.

The Queen, 93, and Prince Phillip, 98, visited Sir Christopher Mallaby at his home, while in Germany on an official visit.

The monarch asked Angela to work with her just two months after they met

As they left, the pair said goodbye to the household staff, and the Duke of Edinburgh asked Angela a question which would change her life forever.

He quizzed Angela over who was Sir Christopher’s next official visitor, but Angela, revealing all in her, said she refused to answer him.

She explained that the information was confidential – even to the Queen.

The Duke pressed her again, saying: “Surely you can tell Her Majesty the Queen?’ he said.”

Angela said that as she had signed the official secrets act, she was forbidden from telling them.

The Queen has attended many events with Angela, including London Fashion Week with Anna Wintour

The exchange had taken place in front of the Queen – and it made a lasting impression on her.

As Angela said goodbye to the Queen, she told her she’d remember this moment for the rest of her life, to which the monarch replied: “Angela, so will I.”

It was just two months after that visit that the Queen requested Angela come and work for her at Buckingham Palace as a dresser.

She is now her personal assistant and senior dresser after rising through the ranks.

She said: “I suppose the Queen must have liked me and decided I was trustworthy and discreet.”

Meanwhile a royal author claimed the Queen loves to eat kippers for breakfast, after becoming fond of them during the war.

Plus we revealed the Queen technically owns a McDonald’s and a Primark as well.
