THE QUEEN has made some incredible speeches in her near 70-year reign.

But yesterday’s Christmas Day message must rank as one of the most moving.

The Queen spoke to us with the calm and courageous honesty that we have to come to rely on in these troubled times

Our 95-year-old monarch has endured a gruelling year.

The death of her strength and stay Prince Philip, hospital illness, abuse allegations against Andrew, sleaze scandals around Charles’ top aide.

That’s before we even even mention Harry, Meghan and Covid.

Annus Horribilis doesn’t come into it.

Yet she spoke to the nation yesterday with the calm, courageous honesty that we have come to rely on in these troubled times.

And she paid a heartbreaking tribute to her late husband.

“My beloved Philip…was as bright at the end as when I first set eyes on him.

“His sense of service, intellectual curiosity and capacity to squeeze fun out of any situation were all irrepressible.’’

These were the words not just of our Queen, but also of a still-suffering widow.

Yet despite her loss she managed to find hope and inspiration in the Christmas story.

What a support to those who have lost loved ones throughout the Covid crisis.

It may have been a day of festivity but we bet there wasn’t a dry eye in every house after that speech.

You were magnificent, Ma’am.

How would we ever cope without you?

Christmas marvels

JABS Army stops for nothing…even Christmas Day.

Superb medics and volunteers gave up their festive fun yesterday to keep Britain’s booster programme going.

They helped contribute to the amazing 130million jabs administered in the UK, 32.3million of which are boosters.

We salute all those who worked on Christmas Day.

You’re the best of British.

Kick out the trolls

THEY don’t come much lower than the monsters who use social media to racially abuse football stars.

Plans to ban them from the terraces for 10 years are a good way to hit back.

Football has taken great strides to clean up the atmosphere inside grounds.

Now we need the same sense of purpose to clean up the internet.
