SHE’S a famously private individual, with very few of her personal preferences often making it into the public domain.
But it was once revealed that the Queen’s favourite song is Dancing Queen by ABBA.
The Queen’s favourite song is said to be Dancing Queen by ABBA
The revelation was made by Chris Evans on his BBC Radio 2 show in 2008 after his friend had relayed to him the events of a dinner at Windsor Castle.
According to the DJ, the monarch – who is now 93 – surprised guests by getting up for a twirl when Dancing Queen started playing.
She then caused even more shock when she admitted it was her favourite tune.
Her Majesty reportedly said: “I always try to dance when this song comes on because I am the Queen and I like to dance.”
According to Chris Evans, the monarch got up to boogie to the hit during a dinner party at Windsor Castle
The hit song was released by the Swedish pop group in 1976 – when the Queen was 50 – and reached number one in the UK.
According to the Daily Telegraph in 2010, it is also the sixth most played song in Britain over the past 70 years.
Other songs the monarch is said to be a fan of were revealed in BBC documentary ‘Our Queen: 90 Musical Years’ in 2016.
“The Queen loves the theatre and musicals like Showboat, Oklahoma! and Annie Get Your Gun,” said Lady Elizabeth Anson, her cousin, during the programme.
The Swedish group (pictured in 1976) reached number one in the UK with the tune
“These were the tunes that remained in one’s head and were very danceable to.”
She recalled: “The Queen is a fantastic dancer. She’s got great rhythm.”
The Queen’s relative added: “We did a lot of singing at Kensington Palace.
“Nobody thought it was odd after dinner if we put on a record and all sang Doing the Lambeth Walk, so music has always been part of her life.”
