BARBARA Windsor fans have launched a social media campaign to have a commemorative statue erected in her home town in London.

Born and raised in Shoreditch, the Carry On and EastEnders actress died on Thursday aged 83, following a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Fans are calling for a memorial statue of the actress

Dame Barbara‘s TV pals Christopher Biggins and Paul O’Grady have already called for a service to be held in memoriam after Covid-19 rules are restricted.

Fans were equally frustrated at not being able to give her the send-off she deserves, taking to Twitter suggesting a permanent memorial be erected for the actress.

“I really feel like we NEED a statue of Dame Barbara Windsor,” wrote one fan.”She’s a national treasure for crying out loud!”

Another agreed: “A statue of Dame Barbara Windsor in Shoreditch is a must,” with a third chiming in: “The great Barbara Windsor should have a statue put up in London!”

“A statue for Babs. Let’s do this,” one Tweet simply stated. “She is and will always be the queen of stage, TV and film.”

Despite not working for the three years up until her death, it was found that the actress had a £1million nest egg saved up.

Dame Barbara quit EastEnders in 2016 and made her last film appearance, as the voice of Dormouse in Tim Burton’s Alice Through The Looking Glass, in the same year.

Having starred in nine Carry On movies, the actress took to the screen one final time in 2017 in a BBC biopic of her life.

Despite having three husband, nightclub owner Ronnie Knight, Stephen Hollings and Scott Mitchell, Barbara had no children.
