Ahead of Lola’s death, fans have watched her becoming increasingly weaker and sicker.

In last night’s episode Denise Fox visited Lola to say goodbye to her for the final time.

The heartbreaking scenes saw Denise promise to be an ‘extra auntie’ to Lola’s only daughter Lexi.

Denise, who employed Lola at her salon, said: “You’ve been a good worker for me over the years, Lo. You got real flair.

“But more than that, enough though I’m over the hill, you’ve been a mate. So wise beyond your years, your tea left a little bit to be desired, though, babe.”

She added: “I’m going to look out for Lex. I know she’s got people, but one extra auntie ain’t going to hurt, is it?”

EastEnders fans were left sobbing as Denise gave Lola a kiss and whispered to her: “You take care, sweetheart.”

Taking to social media, one viewer said: “Denise broke my heart.”

A second wrote: “Denise’s goodbye to Lola was beautiful, saying she’ll always look out for Lexi.”

“Denise saying she’s going to be an extra Auntie to Lexi. I’m a puddle of tears,” said a third.

While a fourth commented: “My heart is breaking at these scenes.”

After Lola draws her last breath, succumbing to her terminal brain tumour, her loved ones are left at a loss next week.

Phil Mitchell (played by Steve McFadden) is firstly unimpressed that his son Ben (Max Bowden) intends to sell the Arches to Sharon Watts and he’s hellbent on the deal.

It’s later revealed why Ben is so adamant on leaving the Arches behind.

EastEnders continues on BBC One and iPlayer.
