Coronation Street fans break down in tears as Simon overhears Leanne saying he isn’t her son

CORONATION Street viewers have broken down in tears after Simon Barlow overheard mum Leanne say he isn’t her son.

The teenager – who is played by actor Alex Bain in the ITV soap – was left heartbroken when struggling Leanne said she would be left with nothing when her youngest son Oliver dies.

Fans were saddened to hear Leanne deny her son Simon

Viewers know Oliver has been diagnosed with life-limiting mitochondrial disease – and won’t live until adulthood.

Leanne has been struggling to cope with the diagnosis and in tonight’s episode she lost it at Oliver’s dad Steve unaware that Simon could hear every word she was saying.

She said: “Steve you’ve got no idea. He was the son I wanted for ever, the son I never thought I’d have. When he’s gone you’ll have Amy and Emma. What will I have?”

While Leanne isn’t Simon’s biological mum, she has raised him since he was a young child with ex Peter.

Simon’s biological mother Lucy died of cancer when he was five – and he then came to live with dad Peter.

And up until tonight he has always considered Leanne his mum – but hearing what Leanne said devastated him.

He ran into his cousin Amy and ended up ranting to her about Oliver saying: “He’s not my brother. We’re not even really related so why would anyone care? It’s Leanne’s problem.”

Simon stormed out of his exam – and infuriated Leanne but fans were heartbroken for him.

One wrote: “Oh no poor Simon. He’s really matured and become a kind young lad. This might set him off the rails again.

“You have two sons, Leanne. Yes Simon is adopted but blood doesn’t mean everything #Corrie”.

A second said: “Leanne really needs to start making everyone go by HER rules & she got remember that she has another son he’s called Simon.

“Or doesn’t he count anymore because he’s not her biological son?”

Another added: “Poor Simon thou hearing that #corrie”.

A fourth commented: “leanne forgetting that she’s got another son is so harsh, poor simon”.
