CORONATION Street fans are confused at Cathy Matthews’ exit.
The shop assistant – played by actress Melanie Hill in the ITV soap – bid farewell to the cobbles tonight for good after suddenly splitting from Brian Packham.
Viewers know Cathy snogged a cocktail mixologist earlier this week and it spelled doom for her relationship with the newsagent.
However Brian decided to move forward with his plans for the couple to move to Cornwall – much to Cathy’s shock.
But when Cathy had had enough of Brian wittering on about moving to Cornwall, she snapped and told him she didn’t want to be with anymore.
“There’s something wrong between us,” she told Brian.
“We need to face the facts. I love you but I’m just not sure it’s enough. There’s something missing, isn’t there?

“I’m not blaming you. Things have been going wrong for a long time. I think we’re splitting up.”
Later Cathy decided that she had to leave Coronation Street.
“It would just be prolonging Brian’s agony to stay here,” she told Alex.
“I’ll only be down the road. Chorlton! What can I say? There’s just not enough vegan delis around here for me.
“Now listen, you’ll all have to come and visit me.”
Now sobbing. Cathy got into Roy’s car for her lift to the other side of Manchester.
But viewers were wondering if that was it.
