CORONATION Street fans were left horrified as Stephen Reid was rushed to hospital after crashing his moped – but have a burning question.

The character – played by Todd Boyce – is constantly covering his tracks from his family, and in tonight’s hour long episode, he was seen begging for his delivery driver job back at Six Fellas.

Stephen was making a quick exit after spotting Elaine while doing his secret delivery driver job

Despite Gail overhearing part of his conversation, Stephen managed to bluff his way out of it, but didn’t notice that he had left his mobile phone on the bench.

Later, Stephen convinced the boss to give him his job back and he set about making his deliveries, but was interrupted by three youths who stole his food bag and work mobile.

Things went from bad to worse for Stephen as he saw Elaine Jones coming round the corner, so he quickly hopped on his moped and sped off.

In his haste not to be seen he almost crashed into a van so swerved but lost control and ended up toppling off the moped and skidding across the floor.

Stephen was rushed to hospital where he was seen with his arm in a sling and dark purple bruises covering most of his arms, shoulders and neck.

The doctor told him he had concussion as well and needed to rest, but Stephen decided to try and leave once she had left his cubicle.

However, he was stopped by Elaine, who had found him lying in the road and called the ambulance, and she was full of questions about why he was in Bolton on a moped in the first place.

Stephen did his best to throw her off the scent and claimed he had been at a business meeting and his satnav had sent him in the wrong direction as he tried to head back to Weatherfield.

But as the two characters talked in the hospital, some Coronation Street viewers were distracted by Stephen’s injuries.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “How the hell did Stephen get that much bruising all over.”

Another viewer, who is not a fan of the character, slammed his bruises and questioned why the soap hadn’t bumped him off.

They fumed: “Dear #corrie, this was an ample opportunity to kill Stephen off. Why didn’t he die. Look at him and his shit bruising for the love of soap, make him die!”

A third also questioned whether Stephen would be as beaten up as he was.

“Would Stephen really be so injured with concussion after such a low speed impact #corrie I’ve come off my push bike at higher speed,” they posted.
