MARIA Connor could be biting more than she can chew as she gets involved in local politics again.

This time, however, her main opponent is new Coronation Street villain and dodgy activist Griff Reynolds.

She’s been trying to make Weatherfield more inclusive

But what will Griff do to thwart her efforts?

The “eco-warrior” played by Game of Thrones star Michael Condron vows to thwart all of Maria’s efforts to turn Weatherfield into an inclusive town.

Maria (portrayed by Samia Longchambon) has recently stood by the idea of welcoming refugees in a brand new local centre, which is a disgrace to a racist Griff and his group.

But as ITV viewers may know, the hairdresser isn’t one to back down easily.

Coming up, Max Turner (Paddy Bever) catches Maria tearing down Griff’s flyers and warns her that he won’t be very happy to hear she’s restricting his right to free speech.

Griff retaliates in no time and, while in his flat with Max, asks the lad to set up an online petition to put a stop to the refugee centre.

In later scenes, Maria meets up with Minur and Daryan, who was recently brutally attacked by Griff’s gang.

The trio discuss the refugee centre but they’re horrified when Griff and his entourage approach.

Maria is met with a confrontational Griff who shows her the online petition Max has set up… and she’s shocked to see many residents have already signed the document.

Max has become the newest member of Griff’s far-right gang after feeling isolated from residents of his age.

Griff took advantage of his vulnerability by taking care of his bullies before welcoming him into his home and introducing him to newcomer Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Lauren has been seducing Max in recent weeks, becoming his girlfriend in the process.

But some residents in the likes of Alya Nazir have tried to warn Max about Griff’s true motivations.

Meanwhile, Maria was in dangerous situation earlier this year as she was trying to get a place within the local council.

She quickly became the target of online harassment and hatred as she stood for environmentally-friendly policies.

This led to her husband Gary Windass (Mikey North) getting himself into trouble in a bid to protect her.

What could Griff do, especially after showing what he’s capable of?
