CORONATION Street’s David Platt was horrified as he was told that Shona may NEVER recover from yesterday’s shock shooting – leaving fans heartbroken.
Shona was one of Derek Milligan’s victims when he went on a crazed rampage against Gary Windass in the Christmas special of the ITV soap.
While Robert Preston was killed in the crossfire, Shona and Gary were hit by a bullet before Derek fell to his death from the street fair’s Helter Skelter.
Today’s episode began with Gary already out of hospital and Shona looking as though she was on the mend – however, when she got up from her hospital bed to go to the toilets she collapsed in David’s arms.
Medics later explained to David that his partner’s brain had been deprived of oxygen and they aren’t sure of the damage that has been caused.
The episode ended as he was told that Shona may never wake up after slipping into a coma.
Fans were devastated for the character, with David previously losing his late wife Kylie after she was stabbed in 2016.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Please dont let David lose another woman..”
Another added: “My heart’s breaking for Shona and David right now”.
A third asked: “Hasn’t David suffered enough??”
Julia Goulding, who plays Shona, is currently on maternity leave from the ITV soap, with HOAR Online previously revealing that her character will be in a coma until this period is up.
The star only finished filming last month – just weeks before giving birth to her and husband Ben Silver’s first child together.
Julia, 34, welcomed baby son Franklin on 30 November – with the actress announcing the news on Instagram.
