LOVE is never smooth sailing for any Coronation Street resident and Emma Brooker is well aware of it.

However, upcoming scenes of the ITV soap will see her get into an unexpected romance ahead of her exit from the cobbles.

After her ill-fated engagement to Curtis Delamere, Emma (played by Alexandra Mardell) finds new love in the arms of Jon Spear.

While Corrie fans believed they had figured out a shocking DNA plot twist, it turns out they were all wrong about pensioner Ted’s grandson.

Yes, Emma will be getting close to Jon, as in the grandson of the man who died shortly after being ran over by her and Faye Windass (Ellie Leach).

Only, Jon isn’t one of deceiving Curtis’ aliases, as many viewers have previously theorised.

Pictures of Alexandra and actor Jordan Ford Silver filming new scenes on-location have confirmed that the character will be Emma’s new love interest.

The pair are set to meet for the first time for unknown reasons but have been seen holding hands and walking arm-in-arm.

But what does the future hold for the on-screen couple?

Back in January, 2022, just after New Year’s Eve, Emma and Faye were coming home from a night out and accidentally hit Ted (Duggie Brown).

While he insisted he needed no help from them, the frail old man eventually died in his home from a blood clot caused by the accident.

Since then – and although Faye confessed her involvement to her boyfriend Craig – both women have been trying to cover their tracks.

Will Emma be able to hide the truth about Ted’s death to his grandson Jon?

Off-screen, this new relationship kick-starts actress Alexandra’s exit from Coronation Street.

Earlier in February, 2022, Alexandra announced she would be waving goodbye to the cobbles after four years on the show.

“Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life”, she said.

“Four years have gone so fast. Compared to other cast members, I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult.”

Alexandra will be bowing out in just a matter of weeks, with her character gearing towards her exit in April, 2022.

Following her announcement – which was subsequently confirmed by Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod – Alexandra gushed over her new job.

But what will Emma’s exit look like?

Will she land in prison for Ted’s death?

Is there disappointment on the horizon for Emma as Jon discovers her involvement in his grandfather’s passing?
