CORONATION Street’s real life couple Joe Duttine and fianceé Sally Carman won’t be getting loved up on-screen anytime soon.

Joe who plays Tim Metcalfe on the ITV soap said love was not on the cards for his and Sally’s character, Abi Franklin.

Sally Carman and Joe Duttine met on the set of Coronation Street and are now engaged to be married

The couple met on the Cobbles and announced their engagement a couple of months ago.

Corrie is currently filming again after a pause due to the coronavirus pandemic and even though the stars are back on set they have to socially distance in their scenes.

But this would not apply to couples who live together such as, Joe and Sally.

Joe, however, does not want their characters to get together.

Sally joined the ITV soap for what was supposed to be a brief stint in 2018
Joe has played Tim Metcalfe since 2013

“That’s the last thing me and Sally want,” he told Inside Soap.

“It would be a disaster. We would make each other laugh all the time, we wouldn’t be able to concentrate – and it’d be a little too close to home, wouldn’t it?

“We don’t want that as it’s nice to have a life away from the Street. We met at Corrie and that’s always going to be special for us, but we don’t want to act it out on screen!”

The actor said he was happy with Joe’s relationship Sally Webster (played by Sally Dynevor) even though they were going through a rocky patch.

But he ruled out having an on-screen fling with his fianceé

“Writers put Tim and Sally together initially to keep her entertained while Kevin was off with a different storyline,” he said.

“I didn’t think it would last, but they clicked, and the writers really got hold of it.

“I like that because in soap, a lot of couples keep falling out and breaking up, so it’s good to see a monogamous couple.

“Tim and Sally have plenty of problems that they can get drama from, but they don’t necessarily involve splitting up.”

He said the real life couple would laugh too much if they had to get romantic on camera

Joe also teased that his character is getting closer to turning against his dad Geoff as Yasmeen’s trial looms.

The actor said: “Remember that Tim isn’t aware of what the rest of the nation knows about Geoff.

“Tim only reacts to the interactions he has with his dad, and he doesn’t want to believe that he could do anything wrong. Some families have to close ranks and protect their own, which is what Tim is doing. But I think Tim is starting to feel as if something isn’t quite right.”

The actor added: “Tim will see cracks in the picture he has of Geoff.”

Joe also teased what would happen with his abusive dad Geoff
The couple now live together after meeting on the set of Corrie

“It’s a slow burn, and Tim’s remaining loyal to his dad until the stage he can no longer do so. We may be getting closer to that stage.”
Sally made her debut on Coronation Street in October 2017.

She was only expecting to have a brief stint but has become a well established character.

In June 2018 she told OK :“This is the brilliant thing with Coronation Street. I initially came in for six episodes and now I’m on the street and have a job on the garage.”
