CORONATION Street star Katie McGlynn has shed a whopping one stone after feeling “dowdy and frumpy” during her latter weeks on the ITV soap.

The actress, who played cancer stricken mum Sinead Tinker, confessed she felt “very down” about her appearance, with her hectic schedule and late working hours not lending themselves well to training and healthy eating.

Late last year, Corrie fans were in floods as her character passed away when her cervical cancer returned – leaving baby Bertie and husband Daniel behind.

Yet her soap exit has left more time for a healthy lifestyle, with a 12-week Ultimate Performance transformation plan helping her lose a stone in little under three months.

Katie, 26, gushed of her healthy transformation: I am so happy with my overall physical and mental wellbeing after this transformation.

“Ive lost a dress size, Ive gained more muscle, Im getting stronger in the gym. I feel like myself again, finally. I feel like back-to-normal Katie.

Before the transformation, I dont want to say I was depressed, but I did feel very down about my weight, mentally and physically I was tired.

“I didnt feel like myself whatsoever. I felt sluggish. I felt really dowdy and frumpy, whereas now I just feel more myself again. Ive got more energy, Ive got a lot more confidence in general.

I have faced quite a lot of challenges during my transformation. As an actor, it can be a stressful life. Its really good, but I felt really emotionally drained after my Corrie scenes. I had not realised how it had affected me emotionally.

“So I confided in my trainer, Olivia, about that and she really helped me through that.”

Hammering home just how important Olivia was in her new look, she added: In order for me to get through all those obstacles, my trainer, Olivia, really helped me because she was always at the other end of the phone. She would give me options, because I would have a lot of social events with work, like awards where theres constant food and alcohol around you.

“There were moments where I thought Ill just eat the cake or drink, but I confided in Olivia about it and she helped me pick the best options surrounding events so that it wouldnt happen.

I have learned what to do nutrition-wise, and what to do with my training and steps. Ive learned so much and Im not going to go back to my old habits constantly.

“Life is about balance. But how I feel now, Im definitely going to be carrying on with my training and nutrition.”

The changes, aside from superset weight workouts targeting compound exercises and bigger muscle groups, also including simple things like upping her daily step count.

Diet was also a focus, with nutrient and protein high meals and green, fibre rich veggies.

The TV favourite added: I finally feel back to normal kooky Katie and Ive stepped away from Sinead in Coronation Street. I feel like me and Im excited for the New Year ahead.
