Alex popped the question on their second anniversary last year and kept the news under wraps

Mollie, 19, said she wanted to ‘enjoy that time together’ before telling the world

Alex, 20, shared the news in a joint interview with Mollie, 19, and said he popped the question on a romantic date night last year but they have managed to keep their huge life news under wraps.

Speaking with OK! magazine, Mollie said Alex got down on one knee in October last year – and they told their loved ones over Christmas two months later.

“We wanted to enjoy that special time together, just the two of us, for a while,” she said.

Coronation Street star Alex, who has been dating Mollie for two years, added: “I thought, ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll keep getting more and more nervous!’ I was pretty certain she’d say yes, but I was still bricking it.”

Alex, who became a dad at 17 when his then-girlfriend gave birth to their daughter Lydia-Rose, previously opened up to HOAR about experiencing “dark times” and credited is role on Coronation Street for saving him.

He said: “If I didn’t stick at the job that I’m in now I would have been lost.

“Corrie has kept me going and especially having a daughter has kept me going – it gives me something to do.”

Alex became a dad just after sitting his GCSEs when his then-girlfriend Levi Selby gave birth aged just 16 years old.

At the time, a source told HOAR: “They were over the moon at the birth of their baby girl and were really happy together.

“But they’ve been through a lot together and they’re both still so young.”

They split up the following May and he met Mollie, a dancer, in 2018.

Alex has been on Coronation Street for twelve years, playing Ken Barlow’s grandson since joining in 2008.

He’s won Best Young Soap Performance twice – first at the British Soap Awards in 2011, and again in 2004 at the Inside Soap Awards.
