Simon looked happy to finally be back on set as arrived at Granada studios in Manchester earlier this morning.

Despite opting for a very casual outfit – which consisted of a plain white T-shirt – the star certainly turned some heads in his impressive bright yellow sports car.

Fellow cast mates Sam Ashton and Joe Duttine were also seen heading to the studio in their cars to start their second week of filming.

His return to set comes after the Corrie favourite contracted the bug just weeks after ITV suspended filming of all their soaps in March.

Today was Simon’s first day back on set after contracting the deadly bug

At the beginning of April he told fans: “1st day out of bed today starting to feel a little better after contracting the virus.

“My main symptom was gastric and still is bloody awful but lucky to not have respiratory. Stay safe everyone x.”

His followers sent their well-wishes to the star, with one saying: “Simon so sorry to hear that you have the virus! Take care of yourself and get well soon! We all need you and Steve!”

Another added: “Oh gosh Bless you, so glad your feeling a little better. Get well soon god bless.”

In March soap stars were not told to come in to work to help stop the spread of the virus and bosses are also scaled back the number of episodes aired each week.

Last month Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars braced themselves for pay cuts after ITV’s ad revenue plummets due to current pandemic.

Insiders say reduction in talent pay is “inevitable” but the biggest names will be saved.

Many of Emmerdale and Corrie’s younger stars fear they will struggle to make ends meet as they believe they won’t get enough work.

One agent said many stars on soaps who are paid per episode are concerned their episode count will drop.

Social distancing rules will mean smaller casts and the speed of filming will also slow – meaning fewer instalments per week.

Although last week Andy Whyment gave a glimpse of what Corrie fans have to look forward to in the future.

The cobbles favourite, who plays Kirk Sutherland in the soap, teased the covers of two scripts on Instagram with the caption: “New scripts EXCITED 😀😀😀👍🏻.”
