CORONATION Street fans are in for a treat as the latest returning character to the show has already walked the cobbles before in different shoes.

Fans of the long-running ITV soap will remember Leo Thompkins’ dad Teddy Thompkins from his brief appearance earlier this year when he was reunited with his former classmate Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) who now happens to be his son’s girlfriend.

Grant is returning as Leo’s dad Teddy but it isn’t his first stint

Grant previously played a building site foreman who was caught in a scandal with Rosie Webster

In awkward scenes, Jenny and Teddy, played by Grant Burgin, caught up in the hospital waiting room unaware they were actually both waiting for the same person.

Now Teddy is back on the cobbles and causes a stir when he warns Leo to stay away from his girlfriend.

The father and son are set to clash over Jenny’s commitment to Leo following her shock kiss with scheming Stephen Reid.

But eagle-eyed fans of the soap may recognise Grant from having taken a stroll down the cobbles in the past.

Back in 2017, Grant’s role as a building site foreman saw him embroiled in a sexism scandal after he catcalled glamorous Rosie Webster, played by Helen Flanagan.

As a result, Rosie’s mum Sally staged a protest to hit back at Grant’s character which famously featured Rita Tanner chaining herself to some railings in a defiant move.

While Grant’s first Corrie stint was short, telly lovers may have seen Grant’s face elsewhere on the box – including TWO rival soaps.

Grant appeared in BBC hit EastEnders as PC Arnold on and off between 2012 and 2015.

As well as this he has made multiple appearances in daytime soap opera Doctors.

Grant’s been around the box quite a bit as he has also cropped up in shows such as Silent Witness, The Dumping Ground, Holby City, Gentleman Jack and The Bill.

It remains to be seen as to how much influence Teddy will have over Leo and will he persuade him to head off to Canada alone without the accompaniment of his glamorous landlady girlfriend.

Grant has enjoyed a varied TV career

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV.
