DANNY Dyer makes sure he keeps his distance as filming for Eastenders finally gets underway.

The cast has started to resume filming for new episodes at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

The BBC soap will shorten its episodes to 20 minutes when it returns instead of the usual half an hour but will air four times a week.

EastEnders executive producer Jon Sen said: “Resuming production is incredibly exciting and challenging in equal measure.

“Since we postponed filming we’ve been working non-stop trialling techniques, filming methods and new ways of working so that we can return to screens four times a week – as EastEnders should be.

“Filming will inevitably be a more complex process now so creating 20 minute episodes will enable us to ensure that when we return, EastEnders will still be the show the audience know and love.”

The soap added that shooting is set to resume at the end of this month and that the return date would be announced “in due course”.

The show’s final pre-filmed episodes will be shown next week – on Monday 15th June at 8pm and Tuesday 16th June at 7.30pm.

The last episode before the break will see Sharon Watts and estranged husband Phil Mitchell go head to head in a dramatic episode that will end with a cliffhanger – which may not be resolved until September.

Classic episodes will be screens on Tuesdays, with viewers getting the chance to see vintage bombshells including Max Branning and Stacey Slaters affair again.
