EASTENDERS star Danny Dyer has only just left Albert Square – but he’s already feeling the HEAT.

Danny, 45, who filmed his final scenes as loveable Mick Carter at the end of October, flew out to Melbourne, Australia last week to lead the cast in the Channel 5 action thriller.

HOAR on Sunday can reveal that he plays a character called Steve who gets into a bit of bother while enjoying a family holiday in the Australian bush, with deadly consequences.

And as our exclusive pictures show it’s not quite the happy summer holiday Steve and wife Sarah, played by actress Pia Miranda, were expecting.

A TV source said: “Danny is having a great time filming in Australia. He really couldn’t get much further away from Walford.

“The cast and crew spent Friday filming at Plenty Gorge on the outskirts of Melbourne. It was their first day out on location and Danny has hit the ground running.

“He’s got a great presence on set, and everyone is very excited. There’s still so much to film with plenty of stunts. Steve and wife Sarah are holidaying in a remote cabin with their long-time friends and there is plenty of drama between the two couples.

“It all unfolds to the backdrop of the looming Australian bush-fire season and not everyone will get out alive.”

The four-part series is excepted to air at the end of next year and also stars former Neighbours actress Olympia Valance, 29, as a sexy police sergeant brought in to investigate when things go horribly wrong.

Speaking before he flew out to Australia Danny said: “I can’t wait to get amongst this beautiful piece of work in Australia. I’ve always been intrigued about working there. It’s my first gig since EastEnders. Heat has a powerful, dark script and strong Australian cast and crew.”

Danny revealed back in January that he was quitting EastEnders after a decade playing Queen Vic landlord Mick.

His dramatic exit, which will see Mick throw himself off a cliff, will be played out over Christmas and New Year.
