EASTENDERS’ boss teased “climactic ” storyline for Sid Owen’s return as Ricky Butcher – hinting a reunion for Mick and Linda Carter.

It’s been over a decade since he last stepped foot in Albert Square, but Ricky is on his way back as Sid is set to reprise his iconic role for a stint later this year.

Sid’s return storyline will be part of Janine’s current situation with Mick and Linda

Sid Owen will reprise his role as Ricky later this year

Executive producer, Chris Clenshaw, told the press: “Ricky is home and Janine is here in a relationship with Mick.

“We’re building to something very climatic between them, but Janine really has got her everything in Mick and the Vic.

“But obviously we all know how strong the bond is between Mick and Linda, and the love they have runs very very deep.

“But we know what Janine is like and what Janine is capable of. I won’t give away exactly how he [Sid] comes back it plays into Janine’s story.”

Janine is currently in a feud with Mick’s ex-wife Linda.

She framed Linda for drink driving and recently blackmailed Jada to do her dirty work for her.

Janine blackmailed Jada into planting empty alcoholic bottles in the flat Linda is staying in and to call social services on her.

Her sabotage goes to plan as Annie is taken away from a devastated Linda.

Meanwhile, Mick has been a great support to Linda during her trail and helping her get Annie back.

Could Janine’s scheming bring Mick and Linda closer together?

Will Mick learn the truth about Janine’s involvement in the car accident?

Danny Dyer is set to leave the soap later this year – will Ricky’s return have anything to do with his exit?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One.
