EASTENDERS fans are devastated as Whitney Dean was given heartbreaking news by the hospital.

The market trader – who is played by actress Shona McGarty in the BBC soap – had an abortion last week after discovering her baby had Edward’s syndrome and would likely live only hours if she went full term.

Whitney and Zack were given devastating news tonight

Whitney asked for the birth certificate or any paperwork and the nurse broke the news to her about baby Peach’s situation

In tonight’s episode Whitney and Zack said goodbye to their daughter before leaving hospital.

Whitney asked for the birth certificate or any paperwork and the nurse broke the news to her about baby Peach’s situation.

“The thing is there’s no birth certificate,” the nurse replied.

“Legally if the baby passes away before 24 weeks…”

Zack was furious: “What? Then she ain’t a person? Our baby’s in there, we held her, she’s somebody, she’s ours and you’re telling us she’s not worth a bit of paper.

“Everyone else might want to pretend like she didn’t happen, but I don’t.”

He stormed off, leaving Whitney alone with the nurse.

Forced to stay, Whitney was furious about being left alone in the hospital not wanting to leave Peach alone.

“I don’t want to go but I have to,” said Whitney.

But when the nurse tried to help her, Whitney broke down devastated at the loss of her daughter and the lack of recognition she had.

Viewers were devastated for Whitney.

One wrote: “Oh Whit I’m so devastated for her.”

A second said: “Poor Whitney such a tragic experience to go through.”
