THE Lionesses made history on Sunday, July 31, after sealing their Euro 2022 success.

In light of their victory against Germany (2-1), EastEnders bosses paid them an impromptu tribute during last night’s instalment.

BBC One viewers were over the moon when the iconic soap sent a heartfelt message to England’s women squad following their epic win at Wembley.

The female football team won the Euros 2022 for the first time in more than fifty years, twenty-four hours before another trip to Walford was aired.

The long-running drama decided to squeeze in a last-minute scene at The Vic acknowledging the record-breaking win to congratulate them.

In its latest show of patriotism, the program featured Tameka Empsom‘s Kim Fox raising a glass while talking about the Lionesses with Vic landlady Linda Carter (portrayed by Kellie Bright) and Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold).

“Mate, it came home! Finally!”, she then said.

Linda was surprised by Kim’s enthusiasm as she was unaware the beautician was a footy fan, to which the latter replied she was “there” when it came to supporting “strong winning women.”

Kim continued, before mentioning her on-screen daughter Pearl: “This has changed everything.”

“The game. Women in sports everywhere. Pearl watched it and loved it. Every single one of them is a role model, I’m telling you. If you can see it, you can be it!”

Soap fans were delightfully stunned by the last-minute scene and took to social media to praise producers.

“Eastenders cast must have been working late last night”, one of them penned.

Another added: “That was the PERFECT way to celebrate the England Lionesses win. Love it when they do that.”

A third viewer commented: “They’re discussing last night’s England game on EastEnders! Bravo BBC.”

One final fan chimed in: “So much respect for EastEnders adding in scenes last minute that are relevant to what’s happening in the world, total dedication.”

EastEnders has a habit of including off-screen events to its episodes, one of the latest ones being Sam Ryder’s stellar score at the Eurovision 2022 contest.

The singer came in second place with the song Space Man, right behind winning Ukrainian band Kalush.

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday on BBC One.
