EastEnders fans predict heartbreak for Rainie Cross as surrogate Bernie Taylor makes decision about the baby

EASTENDERS fans are predicting heartbreak for Rainie Cross after Bernie Taylor referred to the baby as hers.

The teenager is acting a surrogate for Rainie and Stuart with the intention to hand the baby over once she’s given birth.

She used her own eggs – and UK law means that Bernie will be the child’s legal mother until she signs over her rights.

However in recent weeks Bernie has become uncomfortable with the idea of letting Rainie have the baby.

It began with Rainie’s increasingly desperate behaviour as she tried everything to bring Max Branning back to Walford with their shared adopted daughter Abi.

She spread the news that Max was the biological father of Linda Carter’s baby – forcing her husband Mick to step in.

He visited the Taylors and lied, claiming Rainie was using drugs again, in an effort to discredit her.

And it seems it worked a little too well with Bernie now demanding Rainie take a drugs test.

In tonight’s episode Rainie seemed shifty, insisting she had a sleeping pill and that would affect the test.

And later when she tried helping Dotty’s addict mum Sandy, Bernie saw her and assumed she was buying drugs herself.

It led to Bernie openly telling her mum that she was worried for “her baby”.

And now fans are sure Bernie will refuse to let them have the baby and raise it herself.

One wrote:  “Oh dear Bernie getting the wrong idea that Rainie is dealing drugs with Sandy”.

A second said: “Please give Rainie and Stuart a break. It would be lovely to see them happy as parents.”

Another added: “Rainie’s not exactly doing herself any favours is she?”

Actress Clair Norris revealed Bernie doesn’t know what to do – but has started to bond with the baby.

She said: “Yes, Karen sees how emotional she is getting.

“She refers to the baby as ‘her baby’ without a second thought so there is a very strong attachment.”
