TERMINALLY ill Lola Pearce doubted her other half Jay Brown could stomach standing by her side before her death.

However, EastEnders fans were left in tears during last night’s instalment when the pair finally tied the knot.

Emotions were high during last night’s EastEnders instalment as Jay and Lola got married

Lola was reminded of her condition with a nosebleed

Jay vowed to stand by her

The hairdresser portrayed by departing actress Danielle Harold was initially excited to get hitched.

As BBC One viewers may remember, Lola and Jay (Jamie Borthwick) have had to overcome many hurdles before eventually taking their romance to the next level.

But as she was getting ready for her big day with the help of Kim Fox (Tameka Empson), Lola was reminded of her condition with an impromptu nosebleed.

This ultimately led her to doubt whether marrying Jay with an inoperable and terminal brain tumour was a good idea, despite Kim pushing her to make the most of her last moments.

Lola decided she couldn’t marry Jay, explaining her decision to him during last night’s instalment of the London-based drama.

Breaking down in tears, Lola said: “Think about the end, the end of my life. it’s going to be hard. It could get scary, dark, painful.”

But there was no way around it as Jay vowed to stand by her until her last breath, insisting: “I want to spend the rest of your life with you.”

“No matter how much pain and sadness, it will be worth it because of the joy you give me.”

The pair went through with the wedding, exchanging vows in front of their emotional friends and family – while viewers looked on in floods of tears.

“This Lola and Jay scene I’m sobbing”, one of them penned on social media as another added: “I’m already crying.”

A third viewer agreed: “Lola and Jay’s wedding is SO sad but SO beautiful.”

“My heart is breaking knowing that Jay will soon lose his soulmate”, one fan commented.

Another echoed: “Yes I’m crying seeing Lola & Jay marrying. And no I make no apology for it.”

“Don’t think I’ve ever cried so much at a storyline as I have with this one. Absolutely breaking me”, one viewer chimed in and one final fan tweeted: “pass me the tissues.”

But there was still trouble in paradise for the pair as Billy Mitchell revealed he had tracked down Lola’s long-lost mother Emma Harding.

Patsy Kensit made her EastEnders debut during Wednesday’s trip to Albert Square.

Her character was found at her work by Billy and the beloved market trader tried to convince her to attend Lola’s wedding, to no avail.

Could Emma change her mind?
