EASTENDERS fans were stunned at footage of Prime Minister Boris Johnson appearing in a toe-curling episode of the soap.
Old footage of the 55-year-old leader acting in a scene in the Queen Vic, has been doing the rounds on Twitter over the weekend, with one fan gasping: “Boris Johnson was on Eastenders WTF.”
Boris appeared on the show in October 2009 in a rare acting role – as himself – opposite Albert Square legend Peggy Mitchell.
As one fan put it: “ERMMM!!!? WHY was BORIS F***ING JOHNSON IN EASTENDERS??? And why didnt I know? And why has this been FORGOTTEN?? PLEASE.”
He burst into the show after getting a flat tyre, with the locals expecting a showdown between him and Barbara Windsor’s formidable character, who had earlier threatened to take him to task about the amount of litter in Walford.
Referring to the then-Mayor of London, she said: “If that Boris Johnson comes in here I’ll give him a piece of my mind.”
However, when he did made it through the doors of the famous boozer – having suffered a flat tyre while cycling through Walford – she was nothing but sweetness and light.
Peggy welcomed him, saying: “It’s such an honour to have you here, Mr Mayor.”
He replied: “Oh please, call me Boris.”
Pointing at the pint of bitter he ordered, she said: “Lucky for me your bike got a puncture. Now, would you like a top-up?”
When he declined, she went on: “Oh I do so admire a man who devotes his life to serving society. I nearly went into politics myself, you know.”
Reaching into his pocket, Boris replied: “Really? Well if you have any ideas for how I could help Walford, here’s my card.”
She told him: “Oh, I wouldn’t dream of telling the Mayor of London what to do. Thank you so much.”
But then the storyline moved swiftly on to Roxy Mitchell’s troubles and Boris, who was in charge of the capital from 2008 to 2016, was never seen on the soap again.
