However, the Call The Midwife star feels like fun plotlines are few and far between now in Albert Square.

Following the soap’s 35th anniversary week, which saw a boat party end in tragedy for teen Dennis Mitchell, Cliff thinks it needs to inject some light relief.

Speaking to the Daily Star, he said: “The East End is a fun place to live, otherwise no-one would live
there.

“Life is tough in these poor areas. Also, people laugh. In tragedy, there’s humour.

“I think it’s lost its laugh. It’s lost its sense of humour.”

Despite this, Cliff is still a big fan of the show adding: “I think it’s got some of the best actors in the country in it and some of the best writers.”

But instead of doom and gloom storylines, Cliff – who appeared on last year’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! – wants to see everyday issues addressed as well.

He continued: “Sometimes I just want to see Dot Cotton talking about the price of biscuits.

But Cliff thinks the latest storylines have been a bit dark and lacking a sense of humour

“We just want to see normal people on occasion, with normal problems.”

Friday’s episode saw Peter Beale shock his father Ian by telling him he knew what he had done to Dennis on the boat before his death.

Elsewhere, Dennis’ mum Sharon struggled to cope with his death, while remaining in the dark about Ian’s involvement in his passing.
