EASTENDERS fans are predicting Janine Butcher will make a sensational return to the soap this Christmas after five years away.

The speculation began after Slater family matriarch Big Mo opened a letter informing the family they were being evicted from their Walford home.

The solicitors’ letter read: “We are writing again to inform you that your landlord is planning to sell the property 31 Albert Square.

“As per our previous letter dated 12/08/19, a Section 21 Notice of the Housing Act 1988 as amended by Housing Act 1996 is attached to this letter, upon which you are given two calendar months to vacate the property.”

EastEnders fans remembered that Janine is still the property’s legal owner and the letter could pave the way for a showdown with the Slaters later in the year.

One wrote on Twitter: “Is Janine selling Pat’s house! OMG a Janine return is imminent.”

Another exclaimed: “Wouldn’t that be the biggest shock of 2019?”

A third asked: “Is Janine turfing the Slaters out soon then?”

Another wrote: “Do the writers remember the Slater house is owned by Janine Butcher?”

Earlier this year Janine actress Charlie Brooks, 38, hinted that Janine could return to the BBC One soap.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the actressrefused to rule out a comeback in the future.

Charlie replied: “You know, never say never.”

She continued: “I don’t have plans to go back.”

Presenter Kate Garraway joked that Charlie’s 14-year-old daughter, Kiki, could join the soap instead, asking: “If your daughter is 14 isn’t it about time she went into EastEnders?”

Charlie replied: “I know!”

The actress’s comments sparked a fan frenzy, with many taking to social media to urge the star to return.

One wrote: “That era of EastEnders when Janine and Michael Moon were bobbing about causing trouble was peak television… And yet where was the NTA?? The BAFTA?? The Oscar?”

Another tweeted: “Janine is one of the few remaining characters that isnt dead that could actually save the show and get it back on track.”

A third said: “Janine, you need to get back on EastEnders.”

Janine was at the centre of huge storylines on the show

Janine has been a regular character in EastEnders between 1999 and 2014, fleeing the square after murdering Michael Moon in the midst of their bitter custody battle over their daughter, Scarlett.

The villain was found not guilty of murder and left the E20 for France to be reunited with her baby, who was being cared for by her sister Diane.

Evil Janine has previously been at the centre of huge storylines in the show, including the murder of her husband, Barry Evans, her decision to turn to prostitution to fund her drug habit, and accidentally killing Ronnie Mitchell’s long-lost daughter Danielle just moments after Ronnie realised who she was.
