EASTENDERS legend Steve McFadden has landed a brand new role away from Albert Square.

The actor who plays hardman Phil Mitchell on the soap will be taking to the stage for pantomime this Christmas time.

Phil will be worlds away from Walford

Actor Steve will be heading to panto this year

He will be making the switch from the craziness of the Mitchell clan to head to Dunstable’s Grove Theatre.

Steve usually appears in panto and so he is no stranger to the festive tradition.

The 64 year old actor will be appearing in the Grove Theatre’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk this December.

As is usually the case, Steve will be appearing in the show over the Christmas period and therefore Phil will barely be away from screens and so EastEnders fans need not be disappointed.

On the show, Phil is currently loved-up with Kat Slater despite facing a few hurdles along the way.

He has recently shown off his caring side once again as he insisted to his son Ben that he must come to terms with his baby mother Lola’s decisions and way of thinking ahead of her heartbreaking death later this year.

Phil is also set to be in for a shock when his ex Lisa Fowler, played by Lucy Benjamin, returns to the soap later this year.

Lucy Benjamin is returning to the BBC soap four years after her character fled Walford with her daughter.

The actress, 52, last appeared on our screens as Lisa Fowler in 2020 when she went on the run with her daughter Louise after Keanu Taylor’s death.

Louise is the daughter of Phil and Lisa.

It remains to be seen just what Lisa will be back for but it is sure to ruffle some feathers for Phil.

EastEnders airs Monday-Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
