ITV have confirmed that both Emmerdale and Coronation Street will return tomorrow after a string of cancellations.

As the UK enters a period of mourning following Queen Elizabeth’s death aged 96 – significant broadcasting changes have been made.

Emmerdale will be the first soap to return since the Queen’s death

Coronation Street will follow half an hour later

Following Her Majesty’s death at Balmoral last Thursday, the broadcaster chose not to air either Emmerdale or Coronation Street the following evening.

The long-running soaps were postponed in favour of a continuous ITV News special all day, despite the broadcaster not being obliged to interrupt regular scheduling.

Emmerdale is set to return on the broadcaster in its usual slot of 7.30pm, while Coronation Street is poised to air half an hour later.

Despite the return of the much-loved dramas, five beloved daytime TV shows have been axed to make way for an ITV News special.

Wednesday’s schedule will see Loose Women, Dickinson’s Real Deal, Tenable, Tipping Point and The Chase replaced.

It is unclear whether ITV will return to regular programming next week, though disruption to the schedule is expected.

Her Majesty died peacefully last Thursday – marking an end to her historic reign and sparking an outpouring of grief.

In a sombre statement, Buckingham Palace confirmed Her Majesty Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history, had passed away – making her son, Charles, King.

Buckingham Palace announced in a statement: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Charles, who will now be known as King Charles III, gave a sombre statement as he led the nation in mourning.

The nation will come together to mourn Queen Elizabeth II during a minute’s silence on Sunday.

Millions are expected to take to their doorsteps at 8pm to pay tribute to Her Majesty.

The minute’s silence will take place the night before the state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday, which King Charles has declared a Bank Holiday.
