Emmerdale and Coronation Street star Gaynor Faye reveals big career change – and its worlds away from soaps

ACTRESS Gaynor Faye has revealed a major career change which is a world away from her stints on Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

Gaynor, 49, is a well known soap star, but recent reflections over lockdown has seen the mum-of-two explore her options.

Gaynor Faye has revealed a change in her career

Recently seen playing shopkeeper Cheryl in BBC One‘s the Syndicate, Gaynor revealed she’s ‘broadening her horizons’ by taking up a starter course in counselling.

She told My Weekly magazine: “I’ve used some enforced time off in lockdown to broaden my horizons.

“I’m studying Spanish, maths and creative wellbeing, and I’m doing a starter course in counselling, as I’d love to become a counsellor one day.”

It’s change of tact for Gaynor, who has wowed fans in the role of Emmerdale‘s Megan Macey and Corrie‘s Judy Mallett.

With her mother Kay Mellor also in the acting trade – Kay also wrote The Syndicate – Gaynor has had no luck putting off her kids from joining in.

Gaynor, who is mum to Lily, 17, and Oliver, 19, explained: “My daughter, Lily, is at drama school studying musical theatre and my son, Oliver, is a budding actor, director and writer.

“I’m very proud of them.

‘As a mum, you want security for your children, so I encouraged them to find ‘sensible’ professions.”

She added: “I kept saying, ‘How about becoming a doctor? It’s very dramatic in A&E.

“Acting is such a difficult career and I wanted them to pursue something with stability and longevity.”

In a recent chat with Fabulous, Gaynor revealed an unlikely celebrity crush.

She confessed: “Merlin from First Dates.

“I recently found out that he has a bar, so I might have to go!”

On her perfect dinner guests she added: “Nelson Mandela, Tina Turner, and RuPaul.

“We’ll have a big chat about philosophy and politics and then Tina and RuPaul will get the party started.”
