EMMERDALE viewers are confused why Moira Barton is going to stay at her ex mother in law’s house.

The alcoholic farmer – who is played by actress Natalie J Robb in the ITV soap – left the village tonight to go and stay with the mysteriousNanna Barton after realising she had destroyed her life and reputation in the village.

Moira announced she was leaving the village to stay with the mysteriousNanna Barton

Breaking down to her son Matty she said: “These past few days, the things I’ve said and done – that’s not me.

“I saw Nate, Cara and Cain in the pub with the family and Cara brought up some things I’d told her – spiteful lies.

“I don’t recognise myself Matty, I can’t be this bitter and desperate anymore. Cain doesn’t want me and I have to accept that.

“And I promised you that I’d pull myself out of this and to do that I need to get away. Away from him and away from all of it.”

Cain watched on as she told her son Matty the news

Matty then went to beg Cain to let Moira say a temporary goodbye to their children which he granted.

Moira told the boys: “You know that I’ve not been very well, and upset and tired and that’s not good for anyone, is it? Especially not you two. I’m going to have a really good rest and of course I’ll be back. You both be good boys now.”

She then turned to Cain and tearfully thanked him before leaving for Nanna’s house.

But the second she was out of ear-shot Cain told Sam that he had no intention of trying to get her to stay.

He said: “It’s good that she’s going – she needs it. And then when she comes back, I can divorce her.”

And while fans were devastated by Cain’s revelation, they were still confused about why Moira was staying with her former mother-in-law and not her own family.

One wrote: “Wish it was forever! Bye Moira.”

A second said: “That’s Moira announcing her departure then.”

Another added: “Moira returns from her ten minutes of alcoholism.”
