EMMERDALE fans are in shock after Cain Dingle was charged with murdering Al Chapman.

The village thug – who is played by actor Jeff Hordley in the ITV soap – lured businessman Al to a remote bar after posing as his lover Chas Dingle.

Fans are convinced there is a huge twist and not all meets the eye

Once there, Cain threatened him with a shotgun, before attacking Al in a brutal fight.

As the two men struggled the gun went off and Al was left dead.

Cain tried to clean his prints from the gun but was interrupted by Al’s girlfriend Kerry Wyatt who was horrified by what she saw.

She screamed for her daughter Chloe to call for an ambulance and the police, and Cain fled home.

Having had just enough time to hug his children and kiss wife Moira, Cain was quickly surrounded by armed police and arrested for Al’s murder – just as Chas arrived to hear the news.

She was devastated as Cain was loaded into the van and taken to the station for question.

And as the police probed into what happened, Cain denied even being in the barn in the first place.

Though his attempts at misleading the police seem to come to nothing by the end of the episode.

The detective told him: “You didn’t mention your longstanding grudge against Mr Chapman, and the gun you claim someone must have just left around is in fact registered to your wife.

“We have a witness that saw you holding the gun over Mr Chapman’s body. I’m just clarifying the facts as they stand.

“And just so you know, I’ve spoken to the CPS and they agree. They have enough evidence to meet the threshold.

“Cain Dingle, you are charged with the murder of Mr Alistair Chapman. You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.”

Fans are in shock that Cain may finally face some consequences for his actions.

One wrote: “Definitely a twist in all this…Cain isn’t going anywhere, him and Moira too much of fans favourites!! Tough few weeks but can get through it….send Chas down instead or Kerry!”

A second said: “Far too quick and simple for soap land. No one saw Cain fire the gun. There’s going to be a twist in this….”

Another added: “Lets hope that Cain somehow gets cleared of this and Chas gets the blame instead, sent off to prison in his place, she’s really to blame for the whole mess anyway.”
