Will has teased that his character could be out for “revenge” to get back at his brother.

He was also very candid about how pleased he is to be employed.

Speaking to Daily Star, he said: “Not to put anything down, but it’s work, isn’t it? It’s nice to be working.

“You spend a lot of time, as an actor, out of work, and the opportunity to be doing what I like doing every single day is amazing, it’s really good.

“But the main thing is working with Jeff [Hordley] and the character, because the scripts have been amazing.”

The actors and on-screen brothers Jeff and Will have known each other for a long time as they went to school together.

Jeff revealed: “We both went to the same school, North Chadderton Comprehensive in Oldham and had a really inspirational drama teacher called Colin Snell.

“She not only inspired us but the likes of Nicola Stephenson and then went on to another school with Jonas Armstrong and Jenna Coleman.”

They both appeared in the play Another Country while at school.

Will’s previous roles in other television dramas include Coronation Street, Soldier Soldier, Where the Heart Is, Clocking Off, Waterloo Road and The Tunnel.

His character Caleb will be a major part of Emmerdale’s festive episodes.

Will said: “It has been great. I’m getting used to the pace of it. It is a lot quicker and a lot more relentless and intense than some other jobs I’ve done but I’m enjoying it.

“The scripts have been brilliant, the character is great and working with fantastic actors.”

Emmerdale executive producer Jane Hudson added: “Poor Cain is still in prison (accused of killing Al Chapman).

“He will get a visit from his brother on Christmas Day called Caleb – played by Will Ash.

“I last worked with Will about 14-years-ago when I produced Waterloo Road so when our casting director suggested Will for Caleb I was absolutely transfixed.

“He’s absolutely brilliant and I think the viewers will fall in love with him.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV.
