EMMERDALE fans are in shock after the police arrested a suspect with the hit and run that left Alex fighting for his life.

The villain – who is played by actor Liam Boyle in the ITV soap – was hit by a car after attempting to flee the village.

Charles Anderson was wrongly arrested with hitting Alex in his car

The cops have the wrong man and viewers are furious

And while viewers know it was Billy Fletcher, the police are convinced it was Charles Anderson who caught Alex stealing medicine from the GP surgery.

With the police not buying Charles’ story that he went to a petrol station but paid by cash – they simply said they would look into the CCTV there.

Relieved, Charles asked: “So is that it? Can I go home?”

But far from being let go, Charles was instead giving shocking news.

“Our enquiry is ongoing,” the detective told him.

“We’ll know more when our vehicle impact analysis is through.

“But based on your history with Mr Moore and your history with him and the fact that your vehicle appears to have sustained significant damage.

“And along with a lack of any alibis or any other witnesses. And the inconsistencies in your actions, I’m arresting you on suspicion of dangerous driving.”

Fans are in shock at the police’s actions.

One wrote: “Poor Charles he doesn’t deserve this.”

A second said: “Stupid coppers it wasn’t Charles.”

Another added: “Charles has been arrested. Oh no!!!!”
